History

The Sons and Daughters Movement was born in 1998 out of a conversation between two longtime friends, one a Catholic priest and the other a Catholic layman, who shared a

burning desire to awaken in other men an awareness of their call to holiness by following Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God and by striving to be positive influences at home, at work, in the church and in the world.

The layman, Hector J. Ibarra, had seen the need for this in the course of witnessing Christ to other men, principally to those men in prison. The priest, Father Robert E. Maher, had sensed for years, like many other priests, that too many men have not discovered their dignity or gifts as God's sons. God is calling them to be leaders in their family, workplace, in the church, and the world. Fr. Maher also believed that it was not enough for clerics alone to call men to live up to their exalted vocation as God's sons but that men needed to challenge, strengthen, and support each other in their spiritual journey.

Fr. Maher asked Hector Ibarra to organize the men who worked with him in the prison apostolate, and together to lead a conference for the men of St. Joseph Church in Edinburg, Texas.

Soon afterwards Fr. Maher presented the idea to Bishop Raymundo J. Pena, Bishop of Brownsville, and asked him to consider approving the conference for all the men of the Diocese. Bishop Pena indicated that he, too, had desired to see such a conference to take place and was also searching for a way to create a conference. Bishop Pena approved the conference at once and the first Sons of God conference subsequently took place in the fall of 1999 at Resurrection Church in Alamo, Texas. The conference was attended by 400 men and was a great success.

Hector Ibarra contacted Fr. Francis Frankovich and Fr. Ed Wade at the Catholic Charismatic Center in Houston and presented the idea of the Sons of God Men's

Conference for Houston. Soon afterwards Fr. Ed Wade presented the Sons of God Men's conference to Bishop Fiorenza, Bishop of Galveston-Houston diocese, and asked him

to consider approving the conference for all the men of the Diocese. Bishop Fiorenza expressed his vision of such a lay movement and stressed the importance of a spiritual

director such as Rev. Robert E. Maher, who he considers, to be a profound writer.

.

Fr. Ed Wade along with Hector Ibarra contacted and met with a small group of men from the Catholic Charismatic Center. They presented the idea of the Sons of God Conference to the group who enthusiastically accepted the idea and volunteered to help in anyway. So with Fr. Ed Wade and Hector Ibarra along with the support and the guidance from Bishop Fiorenza this small but dedicated group of men started organizing and coordinating the first annual Sons of God Men's conference in the Galveston-Houston Diocese.

After months of planning this small but energetic group grew to include men from different parts of Houston and the surrounding areas. Businessmen like Jim McIngvale owner of Gallery Furniture became involved with his generous donations as well as his inspiring and energetic support, without which, the Sons of God could not have progressed After months of planning the first Sons of God Men's conference took place in the Spring of 2000 at the Catholic Charismatic Center in Houston. It was attended by 500 men who were inspired and motivated to devote their time, talents and treasure

to help the Sons of God Men's Laity Movement.

The second Sons of God Men's Conference was held on Saturday January 27, 2001 and again it was a tremendous success. Jim Mclngvale was the keynote speaker along with testimonials and group interaction. It was inspiring to see men empowered with the fire of the Holy Spirit. Monsignor Anderson and Fr. Mario Arroyo celebrated the Mass.

About Us

The Sons and Daughters Movement, established in 1998, originated from the shared vision of a Catholic priest, Father Robert E. Maher, and layman Hector J. Ibarra. Their mission is to awaken men to their spiritual calling and encourage them to embrace their roles as leaders in their families, workplaces, and communities. Recognizing a lack of spiritual guidance among men, they initiated the Sons of God conferences to foster fellowship and support in their journey towards holiness.

Since the end of the last century Father Robert E. Maher and Hector J. Ibarra to inspire men's spiritual growth and leadership. Organized the first Sons of God conference in 1999, attended by 400 men, aiming to build a community of support and guidance. Through the support of local leaders and volunteers, including influential figures like Jim McIngvale, the movement has grown to host annual conferences that empower men through faith and community engagement.

Missionaries on the Move Claretian Missionaries in Cameroon B.P. 185 c. 100, Yaounde,

Region du Centre Republique du Cameroun March 22, 2023 To Whom it May Concern.

This letter of Commendation is for Deacon Hector Ibarra, President representing Labor of Faith, a non-profit organization that has provided clothing, infants and children's food, food items for adults, bibles, appliances, blankets, pillows, beds, and many other household items too numerous to write to the newly arrived immigrants and the most needy families in Cameroon, Africa. These voluntary services have been provided for the last seven years. Mr. Ibarra's magnanimous, bountiful, charitable, noble, whole-hearted, forgiving, and generous contributions have been a magnanimous journey beyond compare to our community in Cameroon. Deacon Hector Ibarra is the most generous benefactor to our Claretians Missionaries in Cameroon. | spend one week in his home in Pearland, Texas. He paid for all my expenses and helped me raise funds for our Community in late September of 2016. He and his Community have been sending funds ever since then.

After | left Houston, | went to California to raise funds. Our Community had to pay for my travel expenses. Then flew by airplane to Minneapolis, Minnesota to stay with some family members. Deacon Hector Ibarra drove all the way from Houston, Texas without sleep for 36 hours in order to save himself money in order to donate that money that he saved to our Community. Before he arrived at the house where | was staying, he called me to please find a Celebration of the Eucharist in order that together we could attend. Three minutes after he arrived  were on our way to Mass. Before Mass he asked me to hear his confession. |found that Deacon Ibarra has a tremendous devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe. He had been attending daily Mass for 17 years. That was the reason that he ask me to find a Mass close to where | was residing.  For the next 3 weeks in August of 2016, Deacon Hector was able to drive me in his car to four different Parishes in three different States in order that | could Celebrate Mass at those Parishes and give the Priests a week vacation. | was
given permission to ask for a second Collection at each Mass to help our Claretians Missionaries in Cameroon.

We in Cameroon strive to afford assistance to those refugee families that are resent arrivals from North, East, and West countries in Africa that arrive with nothing but their children on their backs. We also assist these families that suffer because without our assistance a tremendous number these children and adults would die from hunger. We also assist them with medical supplies. We provide education and Evangelization opportunities to these the most in need in Africa. Deacon Ibarra has been donating to our Community for seven years since  met him at a Mass Celebration in Mary Queen Catholic Church in Friendswood, Texas. He was moved by the Holy Spirit to come and introduce himself to me. What is the statistical probability that this would happen? One in 3 billion is my estimation. He invited me to coffee and breakfast and when  explained our dire
situation he started to donate money to our Community. Estimate that Deacon Hector Ibarra has adopted 77 orphans in Cameroon. He has assisted to feed 1900 refuges that perhaps would have perished from
hunger without his help. He has helped my 120 Seminarians that are under my supervision for their 4 year Philosophy College Education immensely by paying for their food and supplies. estimate this assistance from the Almsgiving, benevolence, Charity, will leave a great legacy that he has acquired in Cameroon. | include the assistance he provided for me in August of 2016. Currently he is donating monthly to the checking account that  have established in Pearland, Texas where Deacon Hector resides.

Matthew 25: 35-40

Then the King will say to those on his right, Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For | was hungry and you gave me something to eat, | was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, | was a stranger and you invited me in, | needed clothes and you clothed me, | was sick and you looked after me, | was in prison and you came to visit me.
